Novel Study | The Twits

The Twits is a fiction book written by Roald Dahl. In chapters 27-29 the book tells about what happend to the Twits when revenge plot is done.

When the Twit's ran into the house they were shocked because everything was upside down. They thought they are going to die because they thought all their blood will go into their brain. They decided to do a head stand but then they realized they were stuck to the ground because of the glue the Raven's dropped on their heads.

When the animals saw the Twit's they escaped from their house then built a tiny one in a tree. The tree they lived was well hidden so no one can see them. The roly poly bird decided to take themback to Africa because monkeys don't like cold weather and it was nearly winter. The Twits were never seen again because they caught the Shrinks and the only thing left was their clothes inside their house.

This is a funny and interesting book that lots of children can read.

Touch Rugby | Session 5

This week was our fith session of touch rugby. Our coach (Mark) recaped some skills we used in our game.

The skill we recaped was the three man settle. To do a threeman settle one person would run up to take the touch and then plant the ball. Dummy half would pick up the ball and then pass it to the third person. We did this skill in the a group of three.

After we practised we played a game of touch but we had to get into three groups. Two groups would play touch and one group would sit in the shelter and watch them play. All of the groups got a turn to play. The two and three man settle were used during the games.

I was able to drive up the feild using the three and two man settle with Spelman and Elaario. I need to practise getting back on side before running up.

Kapa Haka Performance

Today we watched a kapa haka group perform for the school.

The first thing that happened was that they did an entrance ceremony and then started to perform. When they entered they used a conch to let the people know they are coming. Then they would introduce weapons and tools during a song and dance.

The last thing my class did was play a Maori game called Maui and Matua with Matua Ngarimu. We used the rakau's and we would have to move to the left if they said Maui but if they say Matau we would move right.

We thanked the kapa haka group by the boys from our kapa haka group performing the haka.

I enjoyed watching this kapa haka performance. My favourite part was when they showed different moves for the poi.

Shelter Materials

There are different types of shelters that have different materials that can stand against natural disasters. Materials that could go through storms are materials like concrete, wool and steel frames.

Concrete can be used for the outside layer because water can’t go through the concrete which is good.

Wool can be used for the middle layer because wool can keep the coldness of wind out of the shelter which makes the shelter warm.

Steel frames can be good to hold up the shelter because steel frames are strong to hold up something and if there’s nothing under the roof it might fall down.

By measuring the length and the amount of the materials can help make the right shape and size for the emergency shelter.

Knowing which materials are good for the right disaster is important because an emergency shelter with the right materials can save people's lives.

Fact Find | Emma Watson

Today I did an activity/can do called fact find. Fact find is about researching a new or interesting topic like plants and a type a sport. My topic was a celebrity who is Emma Watson. There are four types of information that needs to be presented.

Introduction
The introduction introduces the topic so the reader knows a little bit about them/it.

5 Facts
The five facts tells the reader five facts about the topic. You can use different wedsites to help find some facts.

Images and Video
The image just shows what the topic looks like and the video uasally tells the reader more about them/it.

Sources
The sources only shows the links to the websites that was used to find the information.

I found finding the media/images and video because I was able to learn new facts about her while trying to find the video and image.

Maori names | Maori Conversations

Today I matched the Maori names with English names but this time were not allowed to use Maori dictionary. Example: Huna/June, Paora/Paul, Ani/Annie.

Lastly I translated some sentences that made a conversation but this time we were allowed to use Maori dictionary to help use translate. Example: Tena koutou katoa/greetings to you all, ko Moana toku mama/Moana is my mum, kia ora e hoa/hello my friend.

Here is a list of different Maori names matched with the English name.

I really enjoyed session because I was able to learn new Maori names without using the Maori dictionary.

Multiplication & Division

This week I took the speed demon. I decided to do both multiplication and division because I wanted to challenge myself and try to get a faster time.

Once I was finished answering the equations my time at was 7 minutes and 3 seconds. My time was faster than last week but I know I can get a faster time.

I found answering the question easy because I know my time tables which makes easier to answer them but I just need to concertrate more on the questions.

The Witches

This week I chose a book called "The Witches." This is a fiction book which means it's a made up story.

I had to write down 3 events that happened in the story. The first event I wrote down was "The boy's parents die in a car crash." He had to move with his grandmother after this incident.

I found this book interesting because it had a lot of action and there is always a surprise.

Novel Study | The Twits

The Twits is a fiction book written by Roald Dahl. In chapters 24-26 the book tells about the monkeys and birds revenge plot is.

While Mr and Mrs Twit were gone buying guns the monkeys and birds were setting up their revengle plot. When they were finished painting the house with Hugtight glue They started glueing everything to the ceiling.

By the time the animals were finished glueing everything to the ceiling the Twits have already came back. When the Twits were looking for the birds some ravens came and dumped some glue on their heads. Mr and Mrs Twit thought it was bird poop but they still carried on looking for the birds.

This is a funny and interesting book that lots of children can read.

Fractions, Percents & Decimals

Fractions is one whole object cut into equal pieces. Percentages is the number that is expressed as a fraction of 100. Decimals is the numaral system is the standard system for for identifying numbers.

Fractions have two parts. They are the numerator and denomenator. The numerator is the amount kept. The denominator is one whole divided. There are two types of fractions which are equvalant and improper fractions. Equvalant fractions are: ½, 2/4, 4/8, 8/16. Improper fractions are 5/4→1 ¼ which are mixed up fractions.

Percentages often identifyed by the percent sign, "%". Division is used when trying to find out a percentage. One question that uses division, fractions, and decimals is ¼ 149. Here is how to solve it:  ¼ of 149 is 37.25% 149÷4=?  9÷4=2)-1, 40÷4=10, (100÷4=25, 37.251

Decimals mostly indentify integer and non-integer numbers. Also percentages can transfer into decimals. Example: 100÷4=25% 0.25, 100÷5=20% 0.2, 100÷3=33.333%  0.3.

Knowing how to use fractions, percentages, and decimals can help make it easier to figure out hard questions.

Model Materials

This week we have been learning about different materials for models that can go against natural disasters.

First, we had to brainstorm and think of what materials can help us when natural disasters are happening.

Next, we had to choose our materials that we needed to build our shelters. Our group chose: Reinforced concrete, wood, vinyl, and stone.

Afterwards, we needed to find the height and the width for the walls and the roof. The walls were 21.1cm for the height and 14.5cm for the width. For the roof the width was 20.1cm and the height was also 20.1 cm.

Lastly, we wrote our materials we need, how much do we need, and the height and width.

I really enjoyed finding different materials that can go up against different natural disasters.

Storyboarding | Narrative

A storyboard is a series of images displayed in sequence that shows the characters movments, the camera angles, and the story settings.

The images should show enough detail so the reader can know where the setting is without someone telling them. People film it on different angles and show the emotions on the characters face to make it more interesting.

A storyboards are different scenes in the narrative. People add a little sentence to give it more detail if the picture dosen't have enought detail. A person who draws a storyboard knows if he did a good job when someone can tell where the setting is without someone telling them.

There are no words in the image because the main ideas is to show the setting, the angles of the camera, and the characters.

Knowing how to write a storyboard is important part because it can help the actors understand how it flows. Storyboards help people visualise the people's surroundings and enviroment.

Exploring Statistics

We have been learning about finding average group score and adding a data set. These include statistics.

When we were adding a data set we used addition and multiplication because these were the only operations we used the most. These made it easier to find the answer for most of the equations.

When we were finding the average we used multiplication instead of using reapeated addition. Example: Finding the average of 182 and 174 is when you divide it by how many numbers like 9 and then add them together (20.2+19.3). Knowing little division questions like 18 divded 9 can help answer bigger equations like 180 divided by 9 because it's the same thing just 10 times bigger.

It's easier to do addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division when knowing what statistics is and how to use it.

Mrs Twit didn't want Mr Twit putting glue on their roof to get the birds, so they decided to buy some guns because Mr Twit really wanted bird pie.

Once the Twits left the monkeys they came up with a plot for revenge. Once they were set free with the help of the roly-poly bird, they decided to use the Hugtight glue against the Twits. The monkeys and the birds started off painting the whole house with the glue.

Athletics Day

Today was athletics day. Athletics day is when classes do fun activities. There are four teams that compeated agaisnt each other and they are: blue, green, yellow and red. This year I am in team blue.

The first activity I enjoyed was rob the nest. We seperated into our own colour teams. Then the two seniors tipped out the tennis balls and then all the teams ran to collect as much balls as we can. We were only allowed to grab one at a time. Once all the balls were gone every one from each team has to try to get as much balls from each group and one person has to stay to defend their nest. At the end my group had twenty-five balls.

The second activity I enjoyed was the sponge relay race. One person has to get in a sack and hop to the bucket. Then they have to grab the sponge, crawl under the tarp, jump over a pole, and then put the sponge in  the bucket of water and then do the same obstacles all the way back. The team with the most water in their buckets wins.

The third activity I enjoyed was the sprints. I ran against the year six girls. In this race I was able to come first which means I will go into interschool.

I enjoyed all the activitys but the activity I enjoyed the most out of the three was the sprints.

We presented in three sessions throughout the day. We presented on stage in front of different schools in the Manaiakalani cluster.

Our film satirised sanitising and the pandemic. Most other films about the pandemic were about safe distancing, and spreading disease.

The film I enjoyed the most was tamaki primary's superhero film because it showed us who to call when there is an emergency.

Screenplays

Screenplays are scripts that are converted into parts only. Screenplays can give some descriptions on how actors should speak and it can also give more detail.

A screenplay sceen number should be in all caps. The name also is should be in caps and center aligned. If there is any extra information people would put it in brackets under their name.

The actors line is usally center aligned under their name. The lines don't need speech marks because it could help what tone to use.

Knowing how to write a screenplay is importaint because actors understand how to say their lines and what their lines are.

Sharing Understandings

This week we learnt two different things that other people learnt during the past two weeks. The two things I learnt from other people was converting measurments and geometry.

First, Chisa taught me coverting measurments. Convering measurments is to divided or multiply the height, width, and the length of something. When the number has been multiplyed the decimal point moves to right once (if multiplying by 10). If the number has been divided the decimal point moves to the left once (if dividing by 10).

Next, I taught Chisa about statistics and interpreting data. Interpreting data is the process of reveiwing data through some process. When collecting data you need to ask a question. Example: What is the likely hood of rolling a six. Then roll a dice about 100 times then make the recordings into a grapgh so people can understand the data.

Then, I explained what money is to David. Money is an item that is accepted as payment for good, services, and etc. NZ money works on a place value system. NZ money currently works on our 100's place value system.

Lastly, David explained to me about geometry. This topic includeds shapes, the relationship between shapes and the movements the shapes do. 2d and 3d. 2d shapes are flat that have faces and corners. 3d shape has many faces, vertices, and edges. Vertices are where the edges or side meet and edges are lines that help form a side.

I enjoyed this task because I was able to learn from others understandings, and I also learnt new skills and knowledge. I thought I did a good job at teaching because the people I taught was able to understand what I learnt.

Mr Twit was waiting for birds to sit on the tree so he can have bird pie. While Mr Twit is waiting the monkeys are trying to warn the birds so they don't get cooked. The problem was the birds couldn't understand them because the monkeys speak a different language.

The monkeys thought the birds are going to get eaten and thats when they saw their friend the Roly-poly bird fkew down. Emergency Shelters Design

This week for inquiry we were creating our own emergency shelter. An emergency shelter is a place that protects people from natural disasters.

First we looked at different types of shelters that are different shapes. We had to figure out if they were a good or bad shelter.

Next we thought and discussed what the shape of our shelter would be. My group decided that the shape should be a triangle. We thought this would be a good shelter against strong wind.

Then we created our own shelter on sketch up. This app is used to create 3d models.

Lastly we discussed which material would do best if this shelter was going to be created in real life. The best material we could think of was tungsten. Tungsten is a type of metal that is extremely rare to find. It cannot be broken either.

If we could change specific things in our shelter, the things we would change are adding windows to see, another entrance to our shelter and probably taking out the legs and ropes.

We found this task difficult because it was hard trying to design our shelter but it was still fun learning how to create a shelter.

Touch Rugby | Session 3

This week was our third session of touch rugby. Our coach (Mark) taught us a new skill.

The skill we learnt was a two and a three man settle. We played a listening game for a warm up before we started.

To do a threeman settle one person would run up to take the touch and then plant the ball. Dummy half would pick up the ball and then pass it to the third person. We did this drill in the same groups but we named ourself so we don't get confused.

Lastly we played a game of touch but insted of running we walked through the game. The couch wanted us to walk so it would be easier to explain to the kids that didn't know the rules. This game included our new skill.

Fixing Narratives

Narratives are fictional stories that usally use third person and past tense. The structure of a narrative is TOPES. TOPES stands for title, orentation, problem, events, and solution.

To fix a narrative people make sure there is not to much conversations and speech. If there is they add more narration to fix it. If there is to much narration people add more conversations and speech to make it more interesting.

To write a narrative people use their ideas, then puts them into sentences and paragrapghs.

It's importaint to fix a narrative to make it more interesting. It's also importaint to know the process of a narrative because it helps other people expand their knowledge.

Money

Money is a item the is accepted as payment for goods and services. NZ money works on a place value system. NZ money currently works on our 100's place value system.

The NZ money have 5 different coins and 5 different notes. There are 10c, 20c, 50c, $1, and $2 coins. There are $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 dollar notes.

Here is an example on how the system works. A person then they used up a $1.50 and a $1.70. How much does the person have left? This can be solved using place value. First add $1.50c and $1.70c together. 70+50=$1.20c. Then add $1+$1=$2.00. After that add $2.00+$1.20c=$3.20c. Then take away $10.00-$3.20=6.80.

Money can be shown in many different ways. It's importaint to know to use money because it helps people understand the value of money.
