Fiancial Capabilites | Zoo Trip

LI: To plan a day out that fits within the given budget of $50.00

This week for math we have been learning about financial capabilites. Financial Capabilites is about spending money wisely so you don't go over budget.

The task I completed was about planning a day out at the zoo for the Smith family that fit's within the given budget of $50.00. We spent $32 on the activites, and $11 on three ice cream cones for the children. If the Smith family did the activities in question 2 but no food, and purchased a magic memory photo and an animal mobile their change would be $6.

I found this activity interesting because I learnt how to spend money wisely so you don't over budget.

Enter an art, science, or other competition.

LI: To enter an art, science, or other competition

This is my third task I've completed to get my silver confidence.

Last term I entered a colouring competition at the Panmure Lagoon Swimming pools on Easter Monday. I needed to colouring a picture given by one of the managers at the swimming pool. It was a picture a bunny, basket, and a bunch of easter eggs scatered around the picture. When I handed in my picture they said they will put my picture on the wall and decide who wins the competition. When I came back next week I saw that they put star sticker next to my picture and when I went to the counter the manager said that I won the competition. My prize was four easter eggs and a big chocolate bunny.

I enjoyed doing this competition because I got to show my colouring skills.

Summary about Money

LI: To create a summary about Money

This week, my group created a aummary about money. We first started off by reading about it. It talked about how money was used back in the days, how money was created? Who created money? What money looked like in acient history? We then found 20 words that we thought was important from the story, then we chose six most important words from the 20 words. After that we created a summary telling us about what we read by using the six most important words.

I found this task interesting because I learnt that the first metal coin were made about 3,000 years ago in China.

Turtor someone who needs extra help with an skill

This is my first task I've completed to get my silver attitude badge.

During week I've written a thank you note to a teacher and a staff memeber. The student I turtored was Sasuke and I taught him written algorithm. I told the simple steps on how to solve a equation using written algorithm and then I showed him an example by writing it on a whiteboard. He wanted me to explain it again so he would understand the strategy better. At the end he understood and he would like to use this strategy to solve hard equations.

I've found this activity fun because I got take the oppertunity to teach a student how to use written algorithm.

ASB Get Wise

LI: To make wise descision with money

Today LS2 met a guy from the ASB named Marlon who taught us how to be smart with our money and to stop to think and make good descision.

We played a game in teams to teach us about when to spend and when to save money. The game was about us going on holiday to Fiji, our budget was $1,800 and we had to make sure we spend the right amount of money on the right things. Since this game is about a holiday which ever team has the most points at the end of the game to show how much fun we had their wins. We could use a credit card but we need to pay the bank the amount of money we took at the right time before we they add $100 more.

We needed to spend our money on our passport, economy, accomodation, and activites. We could spend $300 on insurance but it might be a waste of money if nothing happens and thats when we needed to think about it. My group spent $200 for the passport, $500 for the flight tickets, $600 for the hotel and the food, $300 for insurance, $200 for the activities.

At the end all of the teams had 12 points and no money at the end of the game which means everyone tied. This happened because we all made the same and right descision.

I found this activity interesting because I got to learn how when we shound spend money and when to save money.

Settings

LI: To use powerful words to describe a setting so that it paints a clear picture in the mind of a reader.

A setting is the place, time and environment of a story to help a reader make a connection to your narrative you need to use your words in away that helps them form a picture of what you are describing in their mind.

To do this we looked at an image and thought of 10 words that described and showed what we could see. Once we had thought of the adjectives or adverbs we used our smart searching skills to help us find synoymns that made our descriptions clearer.

I found this task interesting because I got to learn new words I could use during my writing time.

A Moment In Time Poem

LI: To use the language features and structure of published poem to help use write our own poem.

We looked at the language features and structure of a poem called ‘A Moment in Time’ and used our experiences from camp to follow the structure and collaboratively create our own moment in time poem.

To describe what we heard, what we saw, how we felt and what we wondered we used our senses, adjectives and adverbs.

Ajectives are words that describes nouns. Example: The big dog was hungry.

Adverbs are words that describes verbs. Example: The boy swims well.

I found this task interesting because I learnt how to use ajectives and adverbs in a poem.

Pulleys

LI: To read for meaning and understanding

LI: To use smart searching skills

These DLO's showing above is about an Diagram showcasing an Labelled Diagram about an Inclined Plane , Screw and a Pulley. We did this by reading and understanding the meaning , and watching video , we also did this by writing down notes to help us create our summary. In my group I worked with Te Raumati , Tyson , Moti and Siale. We also created an 25 word summary that helps the readers understand what is an Inclined Plane , What is an Screw and What is an Pulley. We also really enjoyed finding images and tracing them out to help us create our Diagram, then we also labelled our drawing's to make it easier for our readers to understand.

Isaac Newton | Reading/Science

 LI:To learn about Isaac Newton

This week in reading, LS2 has been working towards simple machines, we were required to learn about Isaac Newton. Isaac Newton is a scientist physicist, mathematician, theologian and a astronmer. We were also required to create a DLO with the following questions: Why is his work important? What did he find out? How does his work connect to simple machines?

I found this task interesting because I got learn about Isaac Newton.
