Hauora

 LI: To show our understand of Hauora in context


In the past few weeks we have been learning about what happens if one of your 4 walls falls down, and what each wall means for an athlete. In this activity we got into partners and created a poster showing what happens if an athlete makes a mistake on the performance. Using ‘Canva’ we showed the meanings of each four wall and how it connects to the athletes.


I enjoyed doing this activity because I learnt different ways to help keep your four walls standing.


Something I found interesting was that when one wall falls down their whare tapa wha loses their balance.

Acient Greek Olympic Presentation

LI: To skim and scan to find facts about the Ancient Olympics and make notes in my own words.

This week, LS2 has been learning about the Anicnet Olympics that happend back in 776 bc, other groups showed their presentation to the class to helps others understand the differnt facts and information that we learnt. Our group created a screencastify to show the classrom as our group wasn't that confiedent to speak in front of the classrom. In my group Liletina,Tyson, Moti, Siale and I worked collabortivtly to share our ideas on what we should write down. Using our research skills it helped us find more information and facts about the olympics.

I enjoyed this activity because it gave me the oppertunity to learn something new about Acient Greek, and to build my confidents by standing infront of the class to show our video.

Hauora and Olympians



Althetes will understand how to improve to become more successful. Improving their skills, train them more mentally, and phsically to support their four walls. Having an error in a performance can help athletes learn from their mistake, becoming unsuccessful can lead to becoming self-esteem to help keep their four walls standing. Having all four walls standing strong can set a good mindset which makes them a humble athlete.

Matariki

 LI: To strengthen our connections to Matariki




Matariki is the Maori new year celebration. It takes places each year when the cluster of stars known as Matariki are seen in our skies. The new year is a time for new beginnings and is a time to embrace tradition. To strengthen our connections to Matariki we had a choice of research activities.

I found out that there are multiple stories on how the Matariki stars got to where they are now.

I enjoyed naming the stars because I leanrt that each star has a tribe.

Toys | Technology Topics

 LI: To strengthen connections to technology


We have been learning about technological practice.  This week we have been learning about the 6 processes of Technological Design and how each one is important in the process of designing a product.

We are using the processes of technological practices to  design and build a rubber band- powered rover that can scramble across the floor. (add your ATV challenge here).

I found this activity interesting because I learnt why we need to follow the six technology topics.

Pulleys

LI: To use smart searching skills


These DLO's showing above is about an Diagram showcasing an Labelled Diagram about an Inclined Plane , Screw and a Pulley. We did this by reading and understanding the meaning , and watching video , we also did this by writing down notes to help us create our summary. In my group I worked with Te Raumati , Tyson , Moti and Siale. We also created an 25 word summary that helps the readers understand what is an Inclined Plane , What is an Screw and What is an Pulley. We also really enjoyed finding images and tracing them out to help us create our Diagram, then we also labelled our drawing's to make it easier for our readers to understand.

Cultural Contribute

 


For this task we had to make a photo collage of cultural languages. These ten photos repersent all the different contribution of cultures. These cultures contribute to NZ which makes this country more diverse because the country is divided up into diferent cultures that people in NZ are which makes the country more diverse.

I found it quite hard to find images to relate to cultures because most images show something else. I really enjoyed making the DLO with Diana because I get to learn new stuff and get to collabrate with my friend.

America's Cup

 


Our task was about the America's Cup. This was done in a group of four. Next we wrote down notes by reading articles and watching videos. We then used the notes to write down twenty words linked to topic. After that we chose the six most important words from the twenty words. Lastly we made a summary about the America's Cup using the six important words we chose. I found this task interesting because I learnt a lot about the America's Cup.

What is leadership



Our task was about defining what a team is, leadership, role model, and responsibility. This was done in a group. Next we wrote down what we think a leader is and then write a paragraph that uses 25 words. We then copied it on to a google drawing so we can explain our words and paragraphs. I found this task interesting because I learnt what a leader is.

Presentation | Emergency Shelter

Today my group presented our presentation of our emergency shelter. An emergency shelter is a place that keeps people safe from natural disasters. 

First, we made our presentation and our script. And then started memorizing our lines for when we present.


Next, a group chose us to present. We started our presentation off by greeting them and then started giving information about our 3D model.


Lastly, when all the groups finished presenting our teachers gave all the groups feedback and chose one group to work with.


Our feedback was that our greeting was good but as we went on with the presentation we started to hesitate. Also it was to explain more about the 3D model to see if the information we gave was right.


At the end unfortunaley we got fired. This taught me to be fully prepeared. One thing I could change is having more confidance during my prsentation which includes having a loud and clear voice so everyone can hear me. I still enjoyed this session because I was able to present the information my group and I have learnt.

Emergency Shelter | Design & Technology

We designed an emergency shelter. An emergency shelter is a place that keeps people safe from natural disasters.

First, we drew up our 3D net. A 3D net is something that can be folded into a 3D shape. Our shape was a cube. We needed to draw six 15 cm squares.


Next, we transferred the 3D net into card by measuring the length and width. Once we finished we started cutting it out and folding it into a cube.


Lastly, we started to build our model which was supposed to look like the card. We used cardboard to build the model because it’s strong enough to hold the shelter up.

Shelter Materials

There are different types of shelters that have different materials that can stand against natural disasters. Materials that could go through storms are materials like concrete, wool and steel frames. 


Concrete can be used for the outside layer because water can’t go through the concrete which is good. 


Wool can be used for the middle layer because wool can keep the coldness of wind out of the shelter which makes the shelter warm. 


Steel frames can be good to hold up the shelter because steel frames are strong to hold up something and if there’s nothing under the roof it might fall down. 


By measuring the length and the amount of the materials can help make the right shape and size for the emergency shelter.


Knowing which materials are good for the right disaster is important because an emergency shelter with the right materials can save people's lives.

Model Materials

This week we have been learning about different materials for models that can go against natural disasters.

First, we had to brainstorm and think of what materials can help us when natural disasters are happening. 


Next, we had to choose our materials that we needed to build our shelters. Our group chose: Reinforced concrete, wood, vinyl, and stone.


Afterwards, we needed to find the height and the width for the walls and the roof. The walls were 21.1cm for the height and 14.5cm for the width. For the roof the width was 20.1cm and the height was also 20.1 cm.

Lastly, we wrote our materials we need, how much do we need, and the height and width.


I really enjoyed finding different materials that can go up against different natural disasters.

Emergency Shelters Design

This week for inquiry we were creating our own emergency shelter. An emergency shelter is a place that protects people from natural disasters.

First we looked at different types of shelters that are different shapes. We had to figure out if they were a good or bad shelter.


Next we thought and discussed what the shape of our shelter would be. My group decided that the shape should be a triangle. We thought this would be a good shelter against strong wind. 


Then we created our own shelter on sketch up. This app is used to create 3d models. 


Lastly we discussed which material would do best if this shelter was going to be created in real life. The best material we could think of was tungsten. Tungsten is a type of metal that is extremely rare to find. It cannot be broken either. 


If we could change specific things in our shelter, the things we would change are adding windows to see, another entrance to our shelter and probably taking out the legs and ropes.


We found this task difficult because it was hard trying to design our shelter but it was still fun learning how to create a shelter.

Emergency Shelters

Emergency shelters is a place for people to keep safe during natural disaters.

Fire shelters are used against wildfires. Two materials are metal and aluminum foil. Metal is good against fire because it has strength, stiffness and toughness. Aluminum foil is good because it dosen't burn.

Storm shelters are used against bad storms. Some materials are brick and fire cement. Brick is good because it's constructed with full mortar. Fire cement is good because it can go through rain, snow and hail.

Shelters are very important because shelters can help save lives aganist bad natural disarsters.

Insulation | Experiments

Insulation controls the heat or coldness from escaping the container. There were 5 containers that were used during the experiment. They were tin, plastic, paper, glass, and polystirene.

Trying to keep hot water warm plastic, paper and tin are the best containers to stop the heat from escaping. These 3 container's cooling averages were 10 as they were seen in the spreed sheet.

For the cool insulation, if the temperture goes high that means it is a bad insulater. It's bad because it is coming in and will warm it up. The best container to keep something cool is plastic because its cooling average is 0.

It's importaint to know the differeance between the heat intsulation and cool intuslation. This can help people know if it's a good insulation or a bad insulation

Experimenting

I learnt about experimenting. Experiments are used to find information or data.

First, we chose a certain meterial that we are going to experiment on. The meterial we chose was sand

Next, we measured 100ml of water into a beaker and added 5 drops of food colouring to it.

Then, we measured 50 grams of sand on a scale. We first had to make sure that the container weighed 0 grams so we can get the exact mesurment when we measure the sand.

After, we measured the sand we put it in a tote tray and poured the water into it. We used a tote tray just in case the water spills.

Lastly, we pourded the water out of the container and into a measuring cylider. Then we measured how much water was not obsorbed and recorded it on a sheet.

I found this activity fun because I learnt how to experiment and how to measure properly.

For this task I had to pin point the places the 10 waka went . Before we started this we first started this on a google doc. During this task I learnt that most of the waka's went to the north island because the south island has bad weather.

Saftey Plan

This week we checked out the hazards, risk, and consequences that could happen during making a fire and smores.

First, we discussed different hazards and risk. Next we wrote it down. A hazard for the fire is the fire itself and the consequences is getting burnt.

Then, we discussed some consequences that could happen. Consequences can be how can we prevent it, who's responsibillity is it, and the emergency plan.

After, we made another saftey plan for making the smores with the fire. We repeated the same process but wrote down different hazards, risk and consequences. Then we made smores.

Mr Ogilvie lit up the fire and then demostrated how to roast the marshmellows. After he demostrated we made our own smores.

I found this activity really fun because we got to make smores but I also found it hard trying to roast the marshmellows without it getting burnt.

Risk assessment

This activity is about the possibilities of a hazard, risk, consequences and likelihood during an event.

First we recapped on what a hazard and a risk is. A hazards is things that can cause harm to people, properties, and the enviroument. A risk is somethign that will cause harm to people, properties, and the enviroment.

Next we made a saftey plan for a simple activity. We wrote down what activity it is, the class level, number of students, and where the location is.

Then we had to answer questions like what could go wrong, what could cause it to go wrong, how could we prevent it, and whose resposibilty is it.

Lastly we thought of emergency plan which is going to be needed if a risk elevates to a more serious situation.

I found this activity challenging because we had to find multiple answers for the qusestions and different plans for different risk.
