Marco Polo

Marco Polo was an Italian merchant, explorer, and writer who traveled through Asia along the Silk Road between 1271 and 1295.

Using the information we gathered about Marco Polo I had to create a A3 informative poster.

I used my work from last week to help me write down the introduction.

Then I used the poster from when we started talking about Marco Polo to help me find the facts and websites.

Lastly I went to find photos of Marco Polo. Also I had to find a map of where Marco Polo traveled and a graphic about him.

I think finding the graphics was the hardest part of completing the informative poster.

3D Shape Nets

A three dimensional shape is a shape that can be measured in three different directions without moving it: left-right, up and down, in and out.

First I had to find the right shape to put on the slide that has it's name on it except for the last slide. The last we get to chose a 3 dimensional shape.

Next I have to either make the net of the shape or find one online. A net is a pattern made when the surface of a three-dimensional figure is laid out flat showing each face of the figure.

Lastly I had to find a picture of the shape in real life. I had 2 choices. I could either find the shape in my house or I can find one online.

I found the net the hardest because I had to find a transparent image of one online. Also the last slide net was harder because I had to make it.

Comment thread

This week we are going to be commenting a little differently. At the end of our comment we have to ask a question that they can reply back. For an example "Do you like animals?" and once they reply they have to ask the question about the same topic.

I commented on Siale's writing blog post. The question I asked was "Do you know how to write a compound and a complex sentences.

I enjoyed this activity because I learnt how to write a comment ending with a question which can carry on.

Role Models

This week for kiwi can our them is still positive relationships and our new topic is role models.

For our energizer we played "Hammer." The last man standing wins.

Our activity was called "knots and crosses." For this activity which ever team gets 5 points first wins.

I enjoyed this session because I got to meet our new kiwi can teacher and I learnt what a role model is.

Also using this blog post I was able to get my bronze respect badge.

Visulaising

Visulaising is drawing an image map, mind map, or infographic about the text that is difficult to understand.

To visualise a difficult sentence, break it up into parts and then draw each part.

If there are any words that are unknown, they should be looked up in the dictionary. Children dictionaries are best suited for young learners.

Visualising is a good way to easily understand difficult texts.

Complex sentences

A complex sentence is a full sentence with an incomplete idea added on.

Every complex sentence uses the subordinating conjunctions. Some of them are since, if, until and, although.

A inpropper complex sentence will start with a subordinating conjunctions but when the sentence finishes people will still have no idea.

Complex sentences doesn't need to be descriptive but it always needs a subordinating conjunctions.

Tessalation

This week were learning about tessellation's. A tessellation is a shape that is repeated which forms a piece of art.

We had to pick a 2D/2 dimensional shape to use in our tessellation. I did this tessellation on a A4 paper size on a google drawing.

The shape I chose was a hexagon. A hexagon is a 6 angle shape. When I put the hexagon's on I had to make sure to extend it, so it will be bigger than the page.

Next we used this website called 'Colour combos' to help us use good colours that we can use to colour in. When we put the colours on they should look good together.

I enjoyed making this tessellation because I learnt what a tessellation is and how to make one.

Basic Facts Boxes

This week I took the speed demon. I decided to do multiplication instead because I thought that I need to get better at  it.

Once I was finished answering the equations my time at was 6 minutes and 54 seconds. I think I my goal for next week is to get a better time.

I enjoyed this activity because I am getting faster at answer the equations and I am getting better times than last week.

If you don't believe me my proof is on my DLO which is at the bottom of this blog post.

Spiting numbers to make 10

Today I finished my task for math. Our task was to complete our think board about splitting numbers to make a tidy number. The spitting strategy means to cut a number into smaller parts.

First I wrote down my story problem. The equation has to be in the problem. The equation is 56+7. For an example, "Te Raumati had 56 apples but Leon gave her 7 more."

This week I commented on Shinaye's skimming and scanning blog post.

The question I asked her was, "Do you know other reading strategies?" I had to ask a question because I had to try and start a dialogical conversations with others.

I enjoyed this task because I am now learning how to start a dialogical conversation.

Legal and illegal websites

LI:To learn what legal images are and how to find them.

Legal images is a image that is appropriate for kids and that it is understandable, and a illegal image is a image that is rude and it is inappropriate.

This week we are learning about legal and illegal websites. In a group of three we had to to find three legal and illegal websites on a google doc. We added photos to make it look interesting.

One of our legal website were "Flickr", and one of our illegal websites were "Overview."

I enjoyed this task because I learnt what are legal and illegal images are.

Listening

This week for kiwi can our them is still positive relationships and our new topic is listening.

For our energizer we played "Bop the cone" to practice listening for instructions.

Our activity was called "Kiwi Can whisper" to practice listening and hearing information.

I thought "Kiwi Can whisper was a good way to practice listening.

Skimming and scanning

This week we were learning how to do skimming and scanning. Skimming is reading topic sentences to get a basic idea of a book or text. Scanning is looking for key words to find information you need.

I had to find answers in a book called, "Bright find gold"using those 2 strategies. There were skimming question and scanning questions.

For the skimming questions I needed to use that skill to find an answer for each question.

For the scanning questions I need to explain the first, middle and last part of the text.

Ripper rugby

Today was our third session of ripper rugby. This time all the year 5 and 6 girls are going to practice together. We also had different coaches, their names were Glory and Mj.

First we did our passing and catch drills. We lined up in four lines and then the first person in each line has to stand behind the cone on the opposite side. Then the second person in each line have to run forward and pass the ball to person next to. When we were throwing we had make sure we pass backwards and when we are catching the key is to make a W with your had. Once we got to the end the person in front of them has to pass it to them and then that person has to go to the back of the line.

After that we only had 10 minutes left of our session, so during that 10 minutes we played a game of ripper rugby. It was red verses black. I was in the red team. I was able to score more tries than last week.

After that session I was a little tiered, but I was really sore. I still enjoyed that session because I learnt how step which helped me score some tries.

Ripper rugby

Today was our second session of ripper rugby. We attempted it across the road at the curk park like last week. We are still learning how to throw and catch a rugby ball. Also we are learning how to rip. We had the same couches which were Justice and Andrew.

Ripper rugby similar to rugby but in ripper rugby you have tags on your waist. When you get ripped you have to pass it to someone in your team. If you get ripped 5 or 6 times it's a hand over.

First we did started of practicing our throwing and catching.

Next we played an activity, this activity included the tags. For this activity we had to stay in a square and then we had to try to rip each others tags. The tags you ripped we had to give it to Justice. If both of our tags get ripped then we're out. We played two rounds of this activity. I won the last round.

Lastly we played a game of ripper rugby. It was girls verses boys. Since there were more boy than girls Justice and Andrew helped us. I was able to score one try. At the end of the game it ended being a tie. I scored one point for the girls and Taua scored one point for the boys. It was a close game.

After the session I was exhausted. I still enjoyed this session because I learnt how to rip better. I think this is a good sport to play.

Counting on

LI:To add by counting on from the last number

Today I finished my task for math. Our task was to complete our google slide about how to count on. Counting on means to continue counting on from another number. This was an individual task.

First I wrote down my story problem. The equation as to be in the problem. The equation is 75+5. For an example, "Te Raumati had 75 apples but Leon give her 4 more."

Next I had to practice answering 9 addition equations using the counting on skill. The number we are adding to the number is between 1-5 because it's faster to count on.

After that I had to draw my diagram which was a number line. I used the line tool to help me draw my number line.

Lastly I had to explain how I solved the equation. When I explain my strategy has to be counting on.

At the end I think that I did great. I enjoyed attempting this task and I thought that it was really interesting.

Art house

LI:To create a geometric piece of art only using shapes and lines

Today I finished my digital geometric art work. On a google drawing we had to make this house using shapes and the line tool. I used shapes like triangle, rectangle, square, cloud and sun. The rest of I used the line tool.

First we had to make the furthest thing which was the sky and we had to start doing the furthest to closest. At first I started doing the main things which were the sky, grass and the house. Once I finished the main things I started putting more detail in. The details I drew were clouds, sun and the steps.

At the end I think that my art work looked amazing. My favourite part was drawing the house. I also think that I improved at drawing this artwork using my skills. I found this activity fun and interesting.
