Comment Thread

This week I decided to comment on Chisa's math blog post about time.

The question I asked O'Ninesha was 'Are there any other ways you can think of measuring time?'

I enjoyed this activity because I learnt how to reply back and use an open question which will start a conversation.

Wreaking Ball

This week I chose a book called "Diary of a wimpy kid/wreaking ball" This is a fiction book which means everything in this book is not real. This book is based on the Greg Heffley and his family's house.

I had to write down 3 things that happened, one of them were "Greg's family had a chance to change their house."

Then we had to list three or more new words we learnt from the book. One of the words I learnt from the book was 'Pave'.

I found this activity fun because I learnt new words and how crazy Greg Heffleys life is.

Basic Facts Boxes

This week I took the speed demon. I decided to do multiplication because I wanted to try and get a better time.

Once I was finished answering the equations my time at was 3 minutes and 41 seconds. I think my time was way better because my time before was 4 minutes and 24 seconds.

I found this activity a lit bit easier because I have been practising on xstramath to help me get better.

If you don't believe me my proof is on my DLO which is at the bottom of this blog post.

Hyperbole and Personification

I learnt how to describe images using hyperboles and personification. Hyperboles are exaggerated statement. Personifications is when you give object abilities that only humans can have.

First I wrote two examples for hyperboles. One of the examples I thought of was "The lady aged a year waiting for the train to arrive"

After that I wrote two examples for personification. One of the examples I thought of was "The castle paints a perfect picture of royal beauty."

I found some of the images were hard to think of a hyperbole.

T-Chart | Food Storage

Food storage is to preserve something inside to stop them from breaking down or from getting mouldy.

Mason Jars
Mason Jars are glass containers. Mason jars can be kept at room temperature, be reused and they come in different sizes. Some cons are they can't store large amounts of food, are made out of glass and they break easily when dropped.

Plastic Gastronorm Pans
Plastic gastronorm pans are made out of polycarbonate or polypropylene. They can store foods at cold temperatures (polypropylene) and are also strong enough to handle the heat (polycarbonate). Advantages of plastic gastronorm pans are that they are suitable for putting in both fridges and dishwashers. The heat range is 100 degrees. Some cons are that they are not suitable for microwaves or ovens becuase they can melt.

Gastronorm Pans
Gastronorm pans are made out of stainless steel that is suitable for storing and serving food at hot temperature. Some pros are that they are suitable for serving hot food, large amounts of food and are useful to put in ovens. Some cons are they are too deep for fridges and also too long or big.

Conclusion
Each different containers are best for three different situations. The situations are storing left-overs in the fridge, storing preserved food like fruit or pickles at room temperature and storing food that needs to be kept warm for a buffet resturant.

Mason jars are best used for storing fruit or pickles at room tempurature because it's made out of glass and it's airtight.

Plastic gastronorm pans are best for storing in fridges because the person buying them is able to choose the size of the container and they have lids which make them stackable.

Gastronorm pans are best for storing food that needs to be kept warm for a buffet resturant because they can store lots of food and they keep the food warm.

Time

Time is an ongoing sequence of events taking place. There are other different ways to tell time using non standard time.

Listening to a song
Listening to a song is always going to be the same time. This song is 3 minutes and 48 seconds long. This is a exact measurment of time.

Singing a song
Singing a song is not an exact way of measuring time because it can be sang at a different pace each time. This song is about 2 minutes long.

Sand Timer
Sand timers are sand that is in an hourglass. Depending on how much sand there is it will measure different time. It works by tipping it upside down and waiting for the sand to run out from the top to the bottom. The sand timer was 4 minutes.

Watching a video
Watching a video is also an exact measurment of time. Watching this video is 7 minutes and 51 seconds if it isn't stopped or paused.

There are many ways of measuring non standard time. 3 out of the 4 ways were more exact when time was measured to standard time.

Cook Island | Colours and Numbers

We have been given Cook Island challenges since it is Cook Island language week.

I completed two of the task which were colours and numbers.

First I made a google slide were I'm going to put my colours and numbers up.

Then I practised pronouncing the colours and numbers.

When I was I had to take a video of myself pronouncing them and then putting the video on the google slide.

I enjoyed these challenges because I got to learn new words in a new language.

This week I decided to comment on O'Ninesha's writing blog post about similes.

I enjoyed this activity because I learnt how to ask a open question that started a conversation.

Swimming | Lesson 2

Today I practised my water safety skills at the Panmure lagoon pools.

Before we learnt any stroke we had to enter the pool safely.

The first stroke we did was freestyle. We did this stroke from the platform to Shanti. Then we did stream line using the kick boards.

Next we learnt how to do back stroke. We first did back stroke using the kick board then we tried to do it without the board.

Finally we did submerging. I did butterfly stroke to Shanti. When we got to her we had to dive under and swim through the hoop that was under water.

I enjoyed learning the new swimming skills. I found doing back stroke a little bit hard because I had to try to stay a float.

The Twits

This week I chose a book called "The Twits" This is a fiction book which means everything in this book is not real. This book is based on the Twits.

I had to write down 3 things that happened, one of them were "Mr Twits put a frog in Mrs Twits bed."

Then we had to list three or more new words we learnt from the book. One of the words I learnt from the book was 'horrid'.

I found this activity interesting because I learnt more information about the twits and the other characters.

Venn Diagram

The differences and the simalarites in a text can be found by comparing using a venn diagram.

The dippy dinner dripper book is about a family is are messy eaters. Space food is about kids finding ways to preserving food when they were planning to go to Mars.

The difference between Dippy Dinner Dripper book and space is the Dippy Dinner Dripper talks about messy eaters and space food talks about how food get rotten, and mouldy.

The simalarites of both books is: they are both narritives, they both have pictures explaining the book, they are both fictional characters, and they are both related to food.

Simalarites and differences help people know what are parts are the same and different.

Simile

Similes are a comparison of two things using "like" or "as...as".

When similes describe an action, they use "like". For example, "the girl sang like an angel."

When similes uses ajectives, they use "as...as". For example, "the man was as brave as a lion."

Similes help make sentences more interesting and more descriptive.
