This week I commented on Deanne's blog post about Rube Goldberg, she did an amazing job but she didn't write anything that she learnt but she did okay with everything else. Amazing job Deanne.

Basic facts



LI:To remember my basic maths facts

This week I took the speed demon challenge and instead of doing addition I did multiplication. When I finished I was doing it I was really happy because I got all of the answers right. My time was 1 minute and 29 seconds when I finished which I was really proud about.

Places to visit in Japan|Mt Fuji


LI:To find facts about Mt Fuji and give reasons of why we want to visit Mt Fuji.

This task is called places to visit in Japan, I had to find facts about Mt Fuji and give reasons of why I want to visit Mt Fuji. Two fact that I learnt was that Mt Fuji is actually a stratovolcano and it's the tallest mountain in Japan and also one of my reasons were,"I want to visit Mt Fuji because it’s a snow mountain and I haven’t played in snow for a long time."


Swimming

LI:To learn special water safety skills

This week is the last day we will be going to learn water safety skills. When we got there my group had to join Lyvie's group so it can make it easier for the teachers to teach us. Before we got into the pool we had to put on a life jacket because we were going to need it during this session.

Once everyone wore a life jacket we had to safely get into a pool and swim all the way to the wall on the left. When everyone got to the wall James showed us how to make a chain. When we did the chain we had to make sure that when were are leaning on the other person we hold the persons life jacket. When everyone was in the chain we had to do breaststroke kick to make the chain move. After a couple of kicks we had to let go so we can learn a new skill called a huddle. The next thing we did was a pencil drop. When we did a pencil drop we had to put on head behind our head and use our other hand to cross our chest while holding our life jacket. Once everyone was in position we had to take one big step into the pool one by one.

I feel like I'm going to be more confident the next time I swim because of all the swimming skills I now have.

Venn Diagram



LI:To find as many similarities and differences as we can between NZ and Japan

In this task I had to find out as many similarities and differences as we can between NZ and Japan. One fact that really interested me was that Japan's population is 126.8 million because New Zealand's population is only 4.794 million which means New Zealand is really small compered to Japan. I also had to find out at lest three things that are the same about Japan and New Zealand. One similarities I learnt was that New Zealand has a top tax rate of 33.0% but Japan has a top tax rate of 56.0%.

Making a simple machine


LI:To apply knowledge of simple machines to create a Rube Goldberg machine.

We did our Rube Goldberg machines. Our challenge was the putter challenge. We had to push
 cars into a marble. The marble rolls down on a Incline Plain. Then the marbles hit the Dominoes and the 
last domino has a pin. The pin will pop the water balloon the one of us hits the golf ball with a putter into 
a cup. We used Marbles, Putter, Dominoes, Golf ball, Pins, Balloon. String, ruler and water. The simple
 machines we used was the Incline plain, Wedge, Pulley, Lever. The dominoes were challenging to go 
through because every time the marble goes down the ruler the marble only hits some of the dominoes
 but not all of it. I would change the dominoes with a card board track instead. So the marble will 
roll smoothly on the card board into the last domino with the pins on it.

What I found out about Japan


LI:To find out information about Japan

In this task I had to find out five important facts about Japan.One information that really interested me was that the flag meant the sun. I realize that New Zealand is a really really small country compared to Japan because the population of Japan is 126.8 million and the population for New Zealand is 4.794.

Players and positions


LI:To learn and find out the positions of certain players in rugby.

In this task I had to match the players to their positions.  I also put more information about the players like how many caps they played . This made my  table more interesting. The final thing I had to do was put a picture of the player next to their name.

Rugby events



LI:To learn about about history events in the past rugby world cup

This task called rugby events it's about reading so all the things we learnt in reading this year we had to use it to complete this task. We had to find three events in the past rugby world cups that we enjoyed and we had to add an image that was from that rugby world cup. We had to write down the day, event and what was the memories of that rugby world cup and after we do that we had to add a image from that day.


World time


LI:To learn about different times in countries and the different meanings of am and pm

Instead of doing math with Mr Wong were doing activity's about the rwc/rugby world cup. We had to complete these tasks in a group of three, four or five so it will be easier for us.

This task called world time it's about math so we had to use all the knowledge we learnt in math this year to do this task. We had to figure out what time will it be in NZ/New Zealand, USA, Canada, Fiji, Australia, France and south Africa if it was 6pm in Japan and we had to also find out if it's in east or west. While we were trying to complete tis task we also had to find out what is the different meanings for am and pm.

This week my book is a fiction one called Ej 12 in the dark, it's about and special agent called Ej12 who has to get over her fear before the lights are out on the shine network.

Thneed

This week we are trying to sell a type of clothing that is a myth and that type of clothing that we had to try and sell is a thneed. The word thneed comes from a movie called the lorax. We had to complet this task in a group of four, the people in my are Xavier, David, Kruse and me.
What is a thneed?
A thneed is a object that has been knitted from a big truffula tree.

What can it be used for?
It can be used as clothing's like a shirt, a scarf, a sock, a glove and a hat. It can also can be used as a carpet, pillows, sheets, curtain, or even a bicycle seat.

Swimming

LI:To learn water safety and new skills.

This week for swimming we started of with freestyle, we had to do a couple of laps of it before we can do another swimming stroke. Once everyone was on the platform we had to do some more laps but just backstroke with arms, when did it we had to push our stomach up so we don't sink and we also had to make sure our arms are nice and straight and our legs are kicking fast. To finish of we got to do races, we had to get into two groups of three and one group of four. Each group had to swim to the platform on the other side and the first one to get there has to wait for the other people so the fastest people in the group can vs each other, when the fastest people vs each other the first one to get to the platform is the fastest swimmer in the class. I was fast enough to get to the last round and when went to swim on that round I realize that I was the only person who was at the plat form so that means I won.

Abstract art

This is artwork is abstract art, the shapes I used in this art work was diamonds, triangles and rectangles. The space I had to use up was 25 x 33.7cm my width was 25cm and height is 33.7. This art work took me 2 weeks for me to finish this piece of art. 

Faulty reasoning


LI:To understand faulty reasoning

This week we are now learning about faulty reasoning, faulty reasoning means giving a reason which didn't strongly convince another side of the argument. We had to complete six google drawings that are about faulty reasoning and since were doing we had to make our own google slide and put the google drawings on there. For the first three google drawings we had to do this in a group of four, the people in my group was Chisa, Afatia and Leon. The last three google drawings we had to read three message that has five faulty reasoning in it and when we finish it and put it on the slide we had to put the message that we had to find the faulty reason in.

Kiwi Can

LI:To cope with challenges.

This week we learnt how to face our challenge and experience them. We looked at 3 different types of challenges and wrote about our feelings when we face those challenges. We figured out coping strategies in groups of three on a piece of paper that was given to us to answer the questions that's about a challenge that we have to do that is challenging.

My time was 1 minute and 21 seconds when I finished which I was really proud about and next week if I do my basic facts I'll try my best to get all the answers right when I do speed demon addition up to 20. 

Advertising 3.0


LI:To learn about persuasive tool in advertising

This week we have been carrying on with our advertising, this google slide is about television adverting. On the second slide we had to watch a ad called tradie baby, when we finished watching that we had to find to find three ads that has a celebrity in it and one of ads have to be about food, technology and clothing. Once everyone finished we had to move to the third slide to watch another ad called the unsell, when we finished watching it we had to answer five questions about the ad. The last thing I had to when I finished answering the questions we had to do the same thing but we had to find a ad and answer questions about it. The ad I choose was the pak n save ad about $2 week because I thought that it will be easier to answer the question about that ad.

Too much technology




LI:To identify the main ideas
LI:To identify false truths to synthesis information for CRAAP test

This week we have a new article called too much technology, the first thing we had to do was read the whole article before we do anything else. When I finished reading the article I had to put the questions into the text box that says right there, think and search, author and you or on my own. Next I had to fill in the synthesis poster, I had to fill in the prior knowledge, new information and new understanding text box. After that I had to write my script so I know what to say when I do my flip grip, when I write my script I have to write down the web site that back up my opinion. The last thing I have to do when I finished writing the script is to do my flip grid.

Art design(WIP)


LI:To measure length and calculate perimeter and area.

This week we are still learning about measurements, we had to measure a big blank piece a paper for us to draw our art. I did abstract art because when you do abstract art you can create your own art. I t was really difficult doing my measurements so my teacher Mr Wong did my measurements for me which means I can get on to drawing my art. I was trying to think of what I can for my art and then I cam up with an idea but I wasn't sure of what it was going to like. I had diamond rubier that I can trace and I can put other different shapes into spaces I can't fit the diamond in.

Swimming|Water safety

LI:To learn water safety and new skills.

Today for swimming we started of with stream line to the platform and back for a warm up, once everyone we had to do the same thing but we just had to do freestyle instead

Our teacher Karen said that Oscar and I had to go to the end and back because it was to easy for us and the rest the people in my group had to keep on practicing. When everyone was on the platform including us we had to back stroke with arm strokes. Oscar and I had to do that but just do it to the end and back and rest of the people had to do it to the platform. Once everyone was back on the platform Oscar and I had to go to the lane on the right to do our breaststroke to the end and back, everyone else in my group had to practices doing backstroke.

Kiwi Can|Resilience|Dealing with challenges

LI:To deal with challenges

This week for kiwi can we had the same theme and topic, our them was resilience and our topic was dealing with challenges. Our catchphrase was,"When you do a challenge, don't go over, don't go under it, go through it and just do it."

Why do we need to do the challenge?
We need to practice dealing with challenges so we can deal with them easier in the future.

Activity
This week we did a bus stop activity. We had to explain what the challenge is on the photo. We had a to try and write down what they are feeling and what we can do to help with the challenge as fast as we can because after a minute or two we had to give the photo to the group on the left.

Duffy role model assembly

Today the whole school had to go to the hall for Duffy role model assemble, the role model there was Jamie Wall. Jamie wall is a the author of brothers in black, he was born in Wellington(NZ). He works for Maori t.v, radio NZ, news hub and stuff. Jamie Wall has been to many seven different county's so far to watch the all blacks, warriors, UFC, boxing, cricket, super rugby and fifa wc. He made a movie about what he does at work, in the movie it showed different players from different teams playing their game. He told us how he got the job and how he new all the different facts he new about the all blacks, he said that he new all the information about the all blacks by reading a book called men in black and how he got the job was someone asked him different types of questions about the all blacks and he got all the answers right which was amazing.

I like his job because every time he goes to a different county's he doesn't have to pay for the flight because his boss will pay for it.

Pointless,painful physical education





LI:To separate facts from opinion

This week my group are talking about this article called pointless, painful physical education, we had to read the article before we do anything else. Once I finished reading the article I had to fill in this google drawing, I had to put the questions from the article on to the google drawing but I had to figure out which question should put in the text box's that says right there, think and search, author and you or on my own. When I finished figuring out where to put all the questions I had to fill in the synthesis, I had to fill in the prior knowledge, new information and new understanding text box. The last thing I had to do was do my flip grid, when you do your flip grid you do a recording of yourself saying your opinion.

Screw




LI:To learn and create a screw

This week we are learning about a screw, a screw is a tool that helps transport things up hill. We had to watch two video's, one of the video's is saying what is a screw and the second one is how to make one. Once we finish watching the videos in groups of five we had to try and make a screw only using a stick, tubes and tape and we tested it out with a bucket of water. When came back inside we had to fill in a google drawing that has questions about our screw that we made. Once we answered the questions we drew a picture of a screw transporting water through it under the last question.

Advertising


LI:To learn about persuasive tool in advertising 

This week we were doing advertising about adds vs real in groups of three or four, how does cereal get's peoples attention well if you ask me they get peoples attention by putting interesting things on it. We had to write our POV/point of view about what think about how they get people to buy their cereals and we had to write examples next to our point of view. Next we had to search up slogans that has to be about food, technology, clothes and others. Once we filled up the texts boxes with different slogans we had to write our own slogan for our school, our groups one was called, "We learn for the future, we create to apply and we share for the world." The last thing our group had to do was write down all different kinds of tools that are used in advertisement.

Art work


LI:To earn and look after money by creating with math

This week we are doing art that has to include shapes because this is for math. I wanted to do abstract art because when you do abstract art you can just make your own but instead I just looked at a website that has lot of abstract art that includes shapes. I wanted to draw this art work because it looks easy and it only includes two colour's so I won't take long. This art work has a pattern in it and shapes in it is squares and diamonds. Once we finished drawing the art work we had to measure the width and height, the width for my art work is 16.9 and the height for my art work is 8.3.


Information about a wedge



LI:To apply the print design rules.

This week for cyber smart we are still learning about the print design rules, the print design rules is composition, layout, colour and text. We had to make a poster by ourselves using the print design rules, for help Mr Wong/our teacher wrote steps for us to follow while making our poster. We had to make our posters about one of the tools that we learnt in inquiry. I decided to make my poster about a wedge because I thought that it will be easier to write about a wedge. The first thing I had to do was just put all the information down and the images also we had to put a heading on the top of the poster, then we had to put them in the right place so it looks good. The last thing I did was circle the wedge on the object for people who can't spot it.


Kiwi Can|Resilience|Dealing with challenges




LI:To try and complete challenges.

This week for kiwi can we have a new topic called dealing with challenges. Dealing with challenges means trying to complete hard challenges or stuff you can't do. 

Activity
This week our activity was trying to complete a puzzle only using the shapes in groups of three, the hard part about this challenge is that we have to use all of the shapes and the shapes on the piece of paper. We had to try and make a cross or a plus sign. We had to look at the piece of paper before we write on the paper so we can see we can find any idea's of how to solve the puzzle, we had a time limit so we had to work fast. When we ran out of time our kiwi can teacher gave us a piece of paper of the answer.
