Imagination

LI: To edit our writing using DRAFT

This week for writing we have done another abstract poem in pairs. An abstract poem is a poem about an abstract noun. An abstract noun is something that exist but you can’t touch it (happiness, failure, trust, etc)

In this task we need to include the five senses, punctuations, complex sentences, metaphor, simile, etc. After writing this poem we used the DRAFT process which helped us make our writing better for other people to understand.

The structure of this poem is defining what the abstract noun. Then the second line starts with using one of the senses. Lastly write four more lines starting with the abstract noun using the other four senses

Something I found interesting about this was learning the structure of a abstract poem.

Toys | Technology Topics

LI: To strengthen connections to technology

We are using the processes of technological practices to  design and build a rubber band- powered rover that can scramble across the floor. (add your ATV challenge here).

I found this activity interesting because I learnt why we need to follow the six technology topics.

Science | Floating and Sinking

Today for tech we have been learning about what floats and what sinks. When an object is floating it is called buoyancy and that it is when air is inside the object. When an object sinks it means it has no air and the weight of it is too heavy. When it semi-floats it means it is heavy but has some air inside.

Our experiment was to find out which objects will float or sink. One type of a vehicle that floats is a cruise ship. The reason why it floats is because the cruise ship is hollow in the inside which makes it float.

One type of vehicle that sinks is a car. This is because of the weight and there's not much air inside the car.

One type of a vehicle that semi-floats is a submarine. This vehicle also floats because when the tanks are empty the submarine has less weight, and that's why it floats normally like boats. The reason why it sinks is because the water is allowed in the tanks and increases the weight of the vehicle.

Then we did an activity on whether the object will float, sink, or semi-float. The objects we used to experiment on we're sport balls, different types of bricks, plastic, etc.

Lastly we wrote down the results for each object given to see if our predictions were correct.

I found this session interesting because we learnt why certain object float, sink, or semi-float.

Dialogue

LI:To understand how to use and correctly punctuate dialogue when writing.

This week we have been learning about dialogue. Dialogue is at least two or more characters talking with each other. When someone is talking in a piece of writing you need to put speech mark in the beginning and in the end of the dialogue. When writing a dialogue between two characters or more, we use speech marks (“”).

First, we found a partner to work with and use ifaketext.com to practise writing a dialogue. We needed to write the next five lines for a event that happened in the story 'The Three Little Pigs.'

Next, we used wordhippo and the said pyramid to help make our lines more interesting. We did this by taking out one word and replacing it with a more improved word.

Lastly, we put our conversation DLO to explain the five lines in the conversation. We also explained what dialogue is and how to write dialogue correctly by using speech marks in the right places.

I found this activity interesting because I learnt how to correctly write a dialogue and build up my vocabulary.

Student Led Conferences

LI: To share our learning with our families

Yesterday was student led conferences which meant a family memeber comes to your classroom to see our learning. We have been working hard and finishing our work to put on the wall so we show our parents. This is a good opportunity to show our families what we have been working on for the past 15 weeks.

We made a learning journey to make it easier to show our learning on our blog. I showed my 5 minues of camp, polynesian panthers, museum budget, and my kokako infographic. After a few weeks we wrote our script and started practising with a partner.

During week one I decided to go sailing with some of my class around the Auckland harbour. I was put into a group to work with the day at sailing. We all had three rotation, one was on land and two were on the water. This is for representing the school at an outside function

The first activity we did was learning how to tie a knot. One knot I learnt how to do is figure eight knot. We practise our skill by setting up a small boat.

The second activity we did was sailing in a little boats. Our teacher first showed us how to stear the boat and control the sail. We then got changed into our togs and went into one of the small boats. We did this in groups of two. We sailed around the harbour until we are called back to shore.
