Maori Language Week | History

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori is a time in September when people support the Te Reo Māori language to try and get more Māori speakers.

In 2018 the Māori language week theme was 'Kia kaha Te Reo Māori' and it is the theme for this year. This translates to 'Let's keep the Māori language strong'.

The activity is about what Māori language week is and how it all started. 48 years ago people decided that Te Reo Māori should be an offical language to Aotearoa so they signed the petitions with about 30, 000 signatures.
