Summer Learning Journey | Nano Girl Challenge 1

Today I have completed week 1, task 1 for the Summer Learning Journey. To complete this task, I need to make something that flies.

Before I started, I watched a video explaining the task so I know what I'm doing.

Next, I stated thinking of what I could make that flies. I decided to make a paper aeroplane because I found it easier to make.

Lastly, I took a video of me throwing my paper areoplane. I also measured the time it stayed up in the air. The time was 2 seconds.

I enjoyed doing this task because it gave me the opportunity to learn how things stay up in the air when they fly.

  1. Kia ora Te Raumati! Congratulations on successfully kicking off your Summer Learning Journey with this flight challenge from Nano Girl. Paper aeroplanes are such fun to make. I always have students in my classroom (every year) that try to fly them during lessons, which is not a productive time to be experimenting with paper planes! I like that you launched yours from the top of the stairs for more lift. Did you find you got much distance? I wonder what type of adjustments you could make with the design to make it fly further, for longer? Wow! You also have some amazing blogging awards. How long have you been doing the holiday blogging challenges? I really look forward to following your blog over summer. Nga mihi, Naomi (Manaiakalani Facilitator)

    1. Kia Ora Naomi,

Thank you for commenting on my blog! I think I had enough disance to throw my plane.I think I could fold the paper better to make it fly further and longer. I have been doing the SLJ for 4 years so far. Would you like to attempt this task and why?

Thank you again for commenting! :)

  2. Ata mārie Te Raumati!

Chris here, from the Summer Learning Journey.

Pai mahi on doing the first Nano Girl task! Did you enjoy it? Tēnā koe for posting a video of your plane flying, as well as describing the steps you took in completing this activity!

Do you think you would make another plane a little differently to see how it flies, now that you’ve made it one way?

Looking forward to what else you post during the Summer Learning Journey!

    Ngā mihi,
    Chris

    1. Kia Ora Chris,

Thank you for commenting on my blog! I really enjoyed attempting this activity. I would definitely try making a different type of plane to see if it flies better. If you were to try this activity, what would you make that flies?

Thank you again for commenting! :)

    2. Kia ora Te Raumati,

Anytime! And I think I would make a bunch of paper planes as well, I remember being younger the goal amongst us kids would be to try and make the nose as sharp and as dense as possible so it can fly really quickly!

      Ka kite ano,
      Chris
